FC BAYER 04 LEVERKUSEN

Bayer Leverkusen is a team in the Germany Premier League aka bundesliga. On 27 November 1903 Wilhelm Hauschild wrote a letter – signed by 170 of his fellow workers – to his employer, the Friedrich Bayer and Co., seeking the company's support in starting a sports club. The company agreed to support the initiative, and on 1 July 1904 Turn- und Spielverein Bayer 04 Leverkusen was founded.

The club has a very significant contribution to the competitiveness of the Bundesliga.

In 2000, Bayer Leverkusen needed only a draw against Unterhaching to win the title, but an own goal by Ballack helped send the team to a crushing 2–0 defeat. This was a very disapponting time for the team and its fans all over germany.

The team is currently in the 2nd position just below Bayern Munchen and ahead of Borrusia Dortmund.

Another disappointing event in the history of the club was the 2002 UEFA champions league final, where the team went up to the finals after struggling from lower stages. In that game against Real Madrid the team lost 2-1, only to find the title going to the opponents-Real Madrid. In the same year 2002 the club lost their final match against Schalke 04, on a 4-2 defeat. This was nicknamed by some of the UK media as Neverkusen.

In 1988 the club won the UEFA cup. This was the 1st cup ever in european major competitions.
